01About the Maker
YAMAZUTO: Bridging the Forest and the Dining Table
Yamatowa is a company based in the Ina Valley that works to connect people with the forest and their daily lives. This fir-leaf chai comes from their food brand, “YAMAZUTO.”
Along with great taste, the makers want to bring the leisurely pace of life in the forest to the dining table. The starting point for this cup of tea is the makers’ hope that connecting the forest and the dining table will, in turn, contribute to forest conservation.
02About This Product
The freshness of fir and four spices
The maker combines fir needles from the Ina Valley with black tea, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. The fir needles have a citrus-like flavor that adds a refreshing note to the aroma of the spices.
Beyond the surprise of turning tree leaves into a beverage lies a blend designed to be enjoyed as an everyday tea. Since it comes in tea bags, you can steep it in a pot to make milk chai.
03The Story Behind the Blend
Bringing Forest Knowledge and Tea Craft Together
The recipe was developed with Masami Tokuyama, who works on products using forest resources, and Hamasaen, a long-established tea company in Shizuoka.
How do you blend fir, black tea, and spices? The team worked with experts to fine-tune the blend step by step, searching for a flavor that brings out the essence of fir—and this chai is the result.
04How to Brew and Enjoy
In the pot, the aroma slowly unfolds
Place a tea bag and 200 ml of water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and boil for 3 minutes. Add 200 ml of milk, bring back to a boil, then simmer over low heat for 30 seconds. Turn off the heat, leave for 30 seconds, and add sugar to taste.
Start with a little sweetness and adjust to your preference. Enjoy the warm milk and forest aroma with an afternoon snack or during a quiet break.
