Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of store is Yamazakana Yamaki?
Yamazakana Yamaki is a shop located on Nakamachi Street in Matsumoto that connects Shinshu cuisine to travel and daily life. Starting with our premium oyaki, we carefully curate a selection of items that reflect Shinshu’s food culture and artisanal craftsmanship, including prosciutto, craft beer, cider, tsukudani, shichimi, and cheesecake. We strive to be a “shop that weaves Shinshu’s cuisine into travel and daily life,” offering items perfect for both travel souvenirs and everyday meals.
Why do you call it a “gourmet select shop”?
What we value most is not just the products themselves, but also conveying the local culture, craftsmanship, and the creators’ passion that lie behind them. Rather than stocking a vast array of items, we carefully select only what we truly recommend and introduce them along with their stories.
It’s my first visit. What should I choose?
We recommend starting with our Premium Oyaki. It’s the item that best embodies Yamazakana Yamaki’s vision of “Shinshu’s food culture.” From there, feel free to explore our selection of prosciutto, craft beer, cider, and more to suit your tastes. If you’re unsure, please don’t hesitate to ask a staff member for recommendations.
What is the Premium Oyaki?
It’s an oyaki exclusive to Yamazakana Yamaki, created in collaboration with the Japanese restaurant “Yukimoto.” We’ve carefully reimagined this beloved local dish with a modern sensibility, aiming to create a flavor that stands on its own as a satisfying meal. It’s perfect not only as a souvenir but also as a meal to enjoy right here in the store.
Can I eat the Premium Oyaki inside the shop?
Yes. You can enjoy freshly prepared Premium Oyaki right here in the shop. Please take your time and savor it while exploring Matsumoto.
Can I eat and drink inside the store?
Yes. You can enjoy our premium oyaki, prosciutto, coffee, and more inside the shop. Alcoholic beverages are available for takeout only. Please feel free to ask our staff about the daily recommendations.
What other products do you offer besides oyaki?
We carry prosciutto, craft beer, craft cider, tsukudani (simmered preserves), shichimi (seven-spice blend), miso, cheesecake, tea, coffee, and more. We’ve carefully selected each item to reflect the local culture and craftsmanship of Shinshu.
Please tell me about the prosciutto.
At Yamazakana Yamaki, we carry domestic prosciutto made from Nagano-grown pork and produced within Nagano Prefecture. We’re particular about both the ingredients and the production method, resulting in a product where you can savor the rich umami flavor developed through slow aging. It pairs exceptionally well with craft beer and cider.
Do you have craft beer?
Yes. We offer craft beers that embody the unique character of Shinshu, such as those brewed in Hakuba at the foot of the Northern Alps. Our selection changes with the seasons, so please enjoy discovering what’s available each time you visit. Available for takeout at the shop.
Do you have cider?
Yes. We offer craft cider made with apples from Nagano Prefecture. It’s a drink that embodies the spirit of Shinshu, featuring the aroma of fresh fruit and a refreshing tartness. Available for takeout at the shop.
Do you have non-alcoholic beverages?
Yes. We offer beverages that showcase the charm of Shinshu’s climate and local ingredients, such as tea, coffee, and tomato juice. They’re also perfect for taking a break during your stroll.
What do you prioritize when selecting products?
We prioritize products that reflect Shinshu’s food culture, craftsmanship, and the dedication of the producers. We carefully consider the ingredients and production methods to select items that we are fully satisfied with and can confidently recommend.
Are these items suitable for young children?
We have many products that the whole family can enjoy. We select items based on the criterion that we ourselves would want our own families to eat them. If you have any questions about ingredients or allergy information, please feel free to ask a staff member.
How can I buy alcohol?
Craft beer and cider are available for takeout at the shop. Please ask our staff about the day’s selection.
Can I get advice on souvenirs or gifts?
Of course. We’ll suggest recommended items based on your budget and the recipient. Please feel free to consult with us about choosing souvenirs that embody the spirit of Matsumoto or gifts for your loved ones.

Do you ship products?
We ship products listed in our online store within Japan. Shipping fees per delivery address and per size 60 box are 1,000–1,600 yen for standard shipping and 1,300–1,900 yen for cool (refrigerated or frozen) shipping, including tax. Please refer to the Shopping Guide for regional rates. Cool shipping fees already include the temperature-control surcharge.
Will room-temperature items and frozen items be delivered together?
Room-temperature items and frozen items will be shipped separately. They will be delivered according to their respective temperature requirements, and shipping fees will apply for both room-temperature shipping and frozen shipping (temperature-controlled shipping).
If I place a combined order, how will the shipping cost be calculated on the checkout page?
We display the combined shipping cost for room-temperature shipping and frozen shipping. For example, for delivery to Tokyo, room-temperature shipping is 1,000 yen + frozen shipping is 1,300 yen = 2,300 yen (tax included).
Can additional shipping charges apply after I place my order?
Depending on the quantity and combination of items, the displayed shipping fee may change if the package exceeds size 60 (a combined length, width, and height of 60 cm) or 2 kg including packaging, or if multiple boxes or separate shipments are needed. Before dispatch, we will explain the shipping method and any additional fees and finalize them with your agreement. We will not charge additional fees or dispatch the order before you agree. If an additional payment is required, we will dispatch the order after confirming payment. For deliveries to remote islands, please contact us before ordering.
